Black Apple began in 1976 when John and Cathy Ballantyne put out the first Black Apple range. John, who was highly business minded, and Cathy, the designer and creative drive behind the brand. This range was an instant success, and the company went on to also produce the well known Li’l Apple children’s wear brand.
In November 2008, Lazo Stanar and Michael Forster, both long-serving Black Apple employees, purchased the company from the Ballantynes. Lazo, with a background in Sales and Marketing, and Michael, in Operations, are highly committed to the continuing success of the Black Apple label.
Black Apple was originally known for its casual sportswear but has in recent times expanded to include a dressy, casual and “after five” components. Today the Black Apple label branches out to cater for a range of sizes from 10 - 22/24.
Residing in Springvale, Black Apple is a family run and owned business successfully operational for over thirty years. Boasting over 500 stockists
90% of Black Apple garments are designed and produced locally, a unique point of difference in today’s fashion industry where most companies produce off shore.
